Sistemas de 12 V, 24 V o 48 V: cómo elegir el voltaje adecuado

Conocimiento de Baterías · 2026-10-20

Choosing 12V because it is familiar can leave a high-power battery system carrying excessive current. Choosing 48V without checking equipment compatibility can create integration delays and added conversion costs. The right 12V vs 24V vs 48V system depends on load power, distance, duty cycle, available components, and applicable safety requirements.

Start with power, not voltage. For a given load, current is approximately power divided by voltage: a 1,200 W load draws about 100 A at 12 V, 50 A at 24 V, or 25 A at 48 V, before conversion losses. Lower current can reduce cable losses and make high-power distribution easier, but it does not by itself guarantee better system efficiency.

12V systems suit many low-voltage loads and established vehicle, marine, and auxiliary applications. They offer broad component availability, but high continuous power can require thick conductors, larger protective devices, and careful attention to voltage drop. Confirm that the inverter, motor controller, charger, and other loads are rated for the battery's actual voltage range, not just its nominal label.

24V is a practical middle ground where 12V current becomes difficult to manage and 48V equipment is unavailable or unnecessary. It is common in commercial vehicles, material-handling equipment, and some off-grid systems. Check whether the installed loads are natively 24V; adding DC-DC conversion for multiple 12V circuits can offset some wiring advantages.

48V is often considered for higher-power systems because it can deliver the same power at lower current than 12V. This can reduce conductor size or resistive losses for comparable cable length and material, subject to installation rules and design limits. It is used in solar storage, telecom, motive power, and other systems with compatible inverters, chargers, and controls.

A quick comparison, using nominal voltage and an illustrative 1,200 W load: 12V is about 100 A, 24V about 50 A, and 48V about 25 A. These are estimates, not design currents. Actual current rises with conversion losses and can vary as battery voltage changes with SOC, load, and chemistry.

- Specify the continuous and peak load in watts, including startup or surge demand.

- Record cable run length, ambient temperature, installation method, and allowable voltage drop.

- Confirm nominal voltage and operating voltage range for every charger, inverter, controller, and load.

- Check available fuse or breaker ratings, connectors, service procedures, and qualified maintenance capability.

Battery capacity must be compared on an energy basis, not by amp-hours alone. A nominal 100 Ah battery is roughly 1.28 kWh at 12.8 V, 2.56 kWh at 25.6 V, and 5.12 kWh at 51.2 V. These illustrative LiFePO4 figures assume common nominal voltages; usable energy depends on the battery specification, DoD limits, temperature, discharge rate, and system losses.

For runtime planning, estimate energy demand in watt-hours and compare it with usable battery energy. Account for inverter efficiency, reserve capacity, and the actual discharge profile. A battery's permitted C-rate matters: a pack sized for energy may still be unable to supply the required continuous or peak current without exceeding its limits.

The BMS must match the cell configuration, voltage range, continuous and peak current, charge profile, and protection requirements. Specify monitoring and communications needs, including SOC and SOH reporting where required. For LiFePO4, confirm charger compatibility and low-temperature charging controls rather than assuming that a higher system voltage changes the chemistry's operating limits.

For a complete comparison, ask suppliers to quote the same usable energy and power duty at each voltage, with cable assumptions, conversion stages, protection devices, and thermal conditions stated. Compare total installed cost and serviceability, not battery price alone. Verify applicable transport and product requirements, including UN38.3 for transport and standards such as IEC 62619 or UL 1973 where relevant to the application and market.

For OEM/ODM projects, clarify cell format, pack dimensions, BMS functions, connectors, environmental conditions, validation scope, MOQ, and lead time before freezing the voltage architecture. Newbeebattery can work as an OEM/ODM custom pack partner to align pack configuration with the equipment and operating profile.

In conclusion, specify 12V for compatible lower-power loads, consider 24V when current and wiring become constraints, and evaluate 48V for higher-power systems with compatible components and qualified integration. Base the decision on verified load data, usable energy, current limits, and the full system cost.
